“Police Flash 80” is none other than the elite anti-drug unit where a colorful group of misfits operates. For his second film, Jean-Baptiste Saurel worked with Thomas Ngijol on the screenplay of this stereotypical police thriller.

The film nostalgically reconstructs the decade with its charm: minitel, fax, leather, mullets, and more, with plenty of action, impeccable looks, wigs everywhere, all spiced up with a touch of humor.

An old-school cop, Yvon Kastendeuch (François Damiens), is joined by a new team, Guilaine (Audrey Lamy), Roberto (Xavier Lacaille), and Marfoud (Brahim Bouhlel), to solve the murder of one of their police colleagues. Together, they investigate and expose the shady methods of a community center director (Thomas Ngijol).

The film delivers a series of humorous gags, as absurd as they are outdated, led by a hilariously quirky François Damiens. Amidst the clichés of the time, the film highlights the discomfort of innocence in the face of growing dangers: trafficking, addictions, patriarchy, and more.

A series of sketches where the feature film format does not quite work: an entertaining parody that may not be memorable, but clearly showcases the actors’ enjoyment. And who can blame them!
