Legendary French singer Zazie has been captivating audiences for over thirty years with her poetic writing, mischievous humor, and unique voice. From “Zen” to “Je suis un homme,” the 62-year-old artist has always maintained a free and sincere image, far from the norms of celebrity culture. When she steps away from The Voice set or concert stages, she retreats to a timeless sanctuary in the heart of Greece, a place she holds dear, away from the media frenzy and show-business artifice.
Passions of Zazie in Greece
In an interview with Santé Magazine in 2017, Zazie fondly described a tranquil place she considers a true haven. “About ten years ago, I bought a small fisherman’s house deep in Greece.” She enjoys visiting there with her family, saying, “I go with my teenage daughter, her friends, and mine. There is no drinkable water, but we feel good.” This simple and authentic house, tucked away in a remote corner of the country, offers her a connection to nature and the essentials. Without any luxuries, the singer rejuvenates by the sea and sun, disconnecting and immersing herself in the beauty of underwater silence while snorkeling.
“A Pirate House” in the Peloponnese
This declared simplicity perfectly reflects Zazie’s philosophy of balance, nature, and serenity. This Greek retreat allows her to regain anonymity and become just Isabelle de Truchis de Varennes, away from the limelight. A year later, while promoting her album “Essenciel” in 2018, Zazie once again opened up about this beloved residence in her heart. “I have a little pirate house in Greece, in the Peloponnese. The water is not drinkable, it’s a very raw place, but it remains magical.” Accessible after a long journey, as the singer humorously describes with philosophy: “The journey to get there is very long… I rarely take a plane to go there, and then I have over four hours to reach it. I endure this time, because we all want to teleport there for a vacation, as if we could press an on-off button. But I realized that this travel time actually does me good.”
