2026 continues to deliver devastating news. After the announcement of the closure of Sample à Bagnolet, it is now the turn of our beloved Station – Gare des Mines in the 18th district to inform us of its sad interruption. On the evening of Wednesday, April 15, the Collective MU – leading the project – declares the temporary closure (phew) of La Station for almost three years. A chapter closes after ten years of existence. So, if you have played here, created here, or just found something that resonates with you, it is time to support the place so that the project stays alive.
A haven for Parisians for 10 years Opened in June 2016 on Avenue de la Porte d’Aubervilliers, La Station – Gare des Mines is one of the most unique places in the Paris scene. A spot that brings together around concerts, club nights, web radio, artistic residencies, charitable workshops, gardening… In a building that fosters connections and community. Because La Station is also this: a space and a refuge for visibility for all queer and marginalized communities, with a regular program of support and solidarity actions for exiled individuals. La Station represents Parisians in all their diversity.
Three years of closure starting in the fall The good news is that the closure is not permanent. Indeed, the City of Paris supports the sustainability of the location, after ten years of renewed precarious leases year after year. A recognition that comes at a cost, as the venue will close for renovations for three years starting this fall, to find a new and renewed neighborhood, with at its core, a brand-new Station.
During this transition period, the venue’s mission is to find a temporary space to keep the team and projects alive, in order to perpetuate the spirit of La Station. Because three years of closure is long for a structure that relies 85% on its own revenue (ticket sales, bar…) and only 15% on public subsidies. The Collective MU is therefore launching a fundraising appeal during this period and also implementing a support rate for certain events, for those who can afford it.
Meanwhile, until October 31, La Station – Gare des Mines continues to make us vibe, always with the same artistic requirements and unwavering support for emerging talent. So, until fall, we carry on. We continue to come listen to music, party, participate in workshops… The rest is still to be written.
Context: The article discusses the temporary closure of La Station – Gare des Mines, a significant cultural venue in Paris, for renovations that will last three years, starting in the fall. Fact Check: The City of Paris is mentioned as supporting the sustainability of the location during the closure period, ensuring its eventual reopening with a new and improved space.
