Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced on Sunday the extension announced on Friday of the suspension of American sanctions on Russian oil. The U.S. Treasury Department temporarily extended on Friday, until May 16, the suspension of most sanctions targeting Russia’s oil industry in the context of the energy crisis triggered by the Middle East war resulting from the Israeli-American strikes against Iran on February 28.

Trend

The Ukrainian Interior Minister announced that two police officers, accused of fleeing the scene of the shooting that occurred on Saturday in Kiev, resulting in six deaths, have been suspended and are under investigation for their conduct. On Saturday, a man opened fire in a residential area of the capital before barricading himself, after taking hostages, in a nearby supermarket, where he was eventually shot dead by law enforcement.

A video showing two officers in uniform and yellow vests standing next to a person on the ground, then running away as gunshots ring out, leaving the injured civilian alone, has sparked outrage in Ukraine. “It’s a shame for the entire system. They have been suspended and an investigation is underway,” stated Interior Minister Igor Klymenko on Telegram. The Ukrainian prosecutor’s office announced the opening of a criminal investigation into their conduct.

The two officers “did not assess the situation correctly and left injured civilians in danger,” claimed the chief of the Patrol Police Department, Ievgueny Joukov, during a press conference on Sunday. He submitted his resignation.
