At the beginning of spring, we can already see the outlines of the future establishment being built on a plot of land next to the current Maison des auteurs. The building will be made of wood frame with straw insulation. “The walls were prefabricated in the Echopaille workshops and assembled on site following a predetermined assembly order,” he continues.
A cinema room
The 600 m² building on two levels will include an 80-seat cinema room, editing rooms, workspaces, a kitchen, a restaurant, and an office. “We wanted it to be functional,” says Jean-Jacques Rault. The total cost is 1.6 million euros, financed by loans and subsidies amounting to 50%. The State, the Region, and the Department have supported this unique project in a rural area. “We also set up crowdfunding,” the co-director points out. A little boost that was very welcome. “It allowed interested individuals to participate in funding and support our choice of a positive energy building. We could have chosen a less expensive option, but this one suited us well,” emphasizes the co-director.
Activities at the school
An on-site film school designed to host the training offered by Ty Films, especially the latest one titled “Realize, edit, produce: training together in cinema.” It accommodates twelve trainees who will benefit from a cross-disciplinary learning experience in directing, production, and editing over a period of 14 months. “We are currently in a testing phase, but it is intended to be certified with a level 3 diploma,” explains Jean-Jacques Rault. Skol Doc will also be the new hub for adult training, cinema workshops for students from the University of Western Brittany (UBO), and workshops for young people in Central Brittany.
