Iran has closed the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian armed forces justify themselves by citing the blockade imposed by the United States on Iranian ports. According to the British Maritime Safety Agency, Iranian boats opened fire on an oil tanker in the strait.
Donald Trump declared Friday evening that he intended to maintain his blockade if no peace agreement is concluded with Tehran, adding that he might not extend the ceasefire after its expiration on Wednesday. Donald Trump also said that Iran had accepted “never again close the Strait of Hormuz“.
In the meantime, a first convoy of ships carrying petrochemical products weighed anchor on Saturday in the Gulf and headed towards the strait. At least eight oil and gas tankers crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday morning.
It is in this context that the head of Egyptian diplomacy said on Saturday:work tirelessly“alongside Pakistan to achieve a”accord final“between the United States and Iran”in the next few days“.
Meanwhile, in Lebanon, a French soldier was killed and three others were injured in the south of the country during an attack on peacekeepers, announced French President Emmanuel Macron.
