From Friday, the final series in German hockey will kick-off. The heavyweights of the sport will face off as the Eisbären and Mannheim go head to head. Berlin will first play away (7:30 pm, MagentaSport). The team that secures four wins first will be the German Champion (best of seven format).
One player with a keen eye for goal is Eisbären forward Ty Ronning (28). In 34 season games, the Canadian scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists. In an interview with BILD, he reveals his secret to scoring.
The 1.78 meter winger has one of the shortest sticks on his team, measuring around 1.53 meters in length. He explains: “With a short stick, you have better stickhandling, better puck control, and can protect the puck more effectively against an opponent’s pressure.”
Equipment manager Dirk Perschau adds: “Defenders, like Kai Wissmann at approximately 1.80 meters, usually have longer sticks. This gives them greater reach, especially for clearing pucks while shorthanded. A longer stick is also advantageous for slap shots.”
Ronning, the goal scorer, shared: “My father Cliff (who played 1263 NHL games) always tells me that I should cut a few centimeters off my stick. But I am used to it and happy with the length of my tool of the trade.” The goals speak for themselves!
In the DEL Finals, Berlin goalie Stettmer is in outstanding form. The source of the video content is MagentaSport, dated April 21, 2026.
