In Aix-en-Provence, Cadences Visuelles embodies a new way of creating culture with and for young people. Imagined by MJC Prévert and its partners, this participatory project brings together between 80 and 120 teenagers around an original artistic creation, at the crossroads of theater, music and visual arts. A collective adventure which is part of the dynamic of the 2026 Biennale and extends several years of actions carried out in the region.
Since the start of the year, participants have discovered the different stages of creation thanks to a series of workshops supervised by artists and professional speakers. After a first session in February, the April holidays mark a new phase of work, with a program combining theatrical improvisation, photography, beatbox, podcast and even scenography. So many disciplines that allow young people to explore their creativity while experimenting with collective work.
In April, two highlights structure this dynamic. From April 13 to 15, theater workshops around improvisation were offered with Nathan and Sullivan Mezouar, in connection with the socio-cultural center of the Château de l’Horloge, while a photo workshop led by Guylaine Coquet explored the themes of color, movement and shapes, with a view to an exhibition final. From April 20 to 22, the MJC Prévert hosts a second series of workshops: human beatbox with Benjamin Lasbleis, introduction to podcasting with the community radio Radio Zaï, scenography supervised by young artists from the Aix-en-Provence art school, and new sessions of theater. Designed with social centers, these workshops offer participants a concrete immersion in different cultural practices.
A performance on May 30
Inspired by the world of Victor Vasarely, the project invites participants to appropriate the notions of color, movement and optical illusion. These elements gradually feed into the writing and staging of the final show. Teenagers do not just perform: they also participate in the overall design, from technique to communication, thus discovering the backstage of the live performance.
The culmination of this approach, the performance on May 30, 2026 will take the form of an immersive stroll through the Vasarely Foundation. The public will be invited to circulate between different scenes installed in the exhibition spaces, where theatrical performances, music and visual installations will combine. A sensory experience designed as a dialogue between the works and the creation of young people.
Beyond the artistic issue, Cadences Visuelles affirms a strong social ambition. By mobilizing social centers, cultural structures and educational actors, the project promotes access to culture, the expression of young people and their involvement in a civic approach anchored in their territory.
From April 20 to 22, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: workshops at MJC Prévert (human beatbox, podcast, scenography, theater). Final show on May 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Vasarely Foundation (free with reservation). www.mjc-aixenprovence.fr.
