To mark the sad tenth anniversary of Prince’s passing on April 21, 2016, the managers of his musical estate have reserved a nice surprise for his fans. The estate officially unveiled a completely unreleased ballad titled “With This Tear”. Recorded in 1991, this song perfectly illustrates the multi-instrumentalist genius of the “Kid from Minneapolis”, who handled all aspects of composition and instrumentation himself in his legendary Paisley Park studios.

To offer optimal sound quality to contemporary audiences, the track has been carefully remixed and mastered by Chris James, a renowned sound engineer and producer who was a long-time collaborator of the pop-funk icon. Savvy music lovers may recognize the melody of “With This Tear” because Prince generously gave this composition to Celine Dion, who brilliantly interpreted it on her self-titled album released in 1992.

According to the artist’s representatives, the release of this original version sung by Prince marks the beginning of a series of unreleased recordings that will be released throughout the year and will soon be compiled on a new posthumous album.

Charli XCX leaves pop for a distinctly rock turn

After making the entire planet dance with her hyperpop anthems and high-energy rhythms, Charli XCX is gearing up to surprise her audience once again. The British star has decided to turn towards a much more organic and instinctive musical approach for her eighth studio album.

In an interview with British Vogue, the singer revealed this unexpected artistic direction. With her characteristic creative provocation, she declared, “I think the dancefloor is dead, so now, we make rock music”. However, the pop star does not intend to simply emulate the genre’s standards, as she specified, “What interests me is pushing the boundaries of my own vision of rock music”. While no official release date has been announced yet, the project seems to be at a very advanced stage. This bold evolution is eagerly awaited by RTL2’s editorial team, who are excited to see how the performer of “Apple” will embrace the codes of rock music.

Machine Gun Kelly and Fred Durst join forces on an explosive track

The American rock and rap scene is buzzing with the arrival of a particularly fierce collaboration. Machine Gun Kelly (now often called MGK) and Fred Durst, the iconic leader of Limp Bizkit, have just unveiled the track “FIX UR FACE”. The two artists are no strangers to each other, as they had previously shared the stage during a notable joint tour in 2014.

This new track is a real nu-metal bomb, a genre that brought fame to Limp Bizkit in the late 90s and early 2000s. Instantly recognizable is the unique sound signature of Fred Durst and his musicians, cleverly intertwined with Machine Gun Kelly’s incisive verses.

Machine Gun Kelly takes the opportunity with this track to reconnect with his musical roots in rap, after exploring pop-punk sounds in recent years. While this impactful release hints at a possible joint project or collaborative album, no official announcement has been made on that front yet.

In addition to this musical news, Fred Durst has expressed his ambition to create a brand new festival dedicated to artists operating on the fringes of the industry, specifically designed for those who are often overlooked by current major events.
