Katia and Marielle Labèque celebrate 55 years of recordings with 55!
Fifty-five years after the release of their very first recording, Katia and Marielle Labèque mark an exceptional artistic journey with 55, a 3-CD event box set that brings together new recordings and carefully selected pieces from their catalog, covering more than half a century of music.
First published in 1970 under the artistic direction of Olivier Messiaen, their debut album marked the beginning of one of the most unique trajectories in the music scene. “Visions de l’Amen was our very first recording. We were 17 and 19 years old. It was Olivier Messiaen himself who asked us to record it,” they remember.
Since then, they have continuously crossed borders between classical music, contemporary creation, jazz, minimalism, and popular traditions. Commissioning pieces from Philip Glass or Bryce Dessner, performing on stages around the world ranging from Mozart to minimalist, their openness has never wavered, successfully combining artistic excellence and popular recognition.
