In an Instagram post, the rapper said her last performance on the Broadway show will be May 1, about two weeks earlier than planned.
WASHINGTON — Megan Thee Stallion announced on Monday that her final performance in the Broadway show “Moulin Rouge” will be May 1. She was to have played the part of Zidler through May 17.
She made her Broadway debut last month, playing a genderbent version of Zidler from Baz Luhrmann’s film “Moulin Rouge!” The musical is a 10-time Tony Award winning show.
“It’s been such an honor to be part of thee Moulin Rouge family and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theater!” she said in an Instagram post. “Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work! I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful. And to all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey!”
She did not explain the reason for the early departure.
The 31-year-old rapper and songwriter debuted as Zidler, a role originated by English actor Jim Broadbent in the 2001 film, on March 24.
About a week later, on March 31, she was taken to the hospital after feeling sick during a performance at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York and returned to the show a couple of days later. She said on social media that the incident was “a real wake-up call.”
“I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough,” the rapper wrote. “It honestly scared me.”
