Once again, Fos has shown great responsiveness in strengthening its team during the season. Their network worked wonders when Didier Samoun, sports director of AS Aix and a former club member, suggested Paolo Sciortino.
Eddy Cardillo, who knew the father Noël well, a professional player in Alès and Istres with whom he played at Endoume and also crossed paths with the son Paolo at the OM training center, had a flashback. “We went to get him in Marignane, where he had been training since the summer,” explains the coach of Étoile. “I had to convince my president to make the financial effort to recruit him.”
“A great moment of emotion”
Returning to Marseille last summer after two seasons at CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria), the midfielder had “several offers that did not materialize,” until Fos approached him. An opportunity for him to relaunch himself, as well as for the club aiming for promotion to N2. “He is a complete player, a number 8 defensive midfielder who pushes forward to break lines,” appreciates Eddy Cardillo.
Sciortino, on the other hand, will experience a special moment this Saturday in the clash against the Olympian reserve team. “I will see the Campus again and meet several people I know,” rejoices the 22-year-old Marseillais. “It will be a great emotional moment that will not distract me from the very important stakes for the club.” A top derby that can bring great rewards.
The match
The derby between the OM reserve team and Fos will be a top clash on Saturday at the Campus (6 pm). Étoile is on a six-game winning streak and reclaimed the top spot last week by beating ASPTT Dijon (0-1). But Fos is closely followed by Bourgoin-Jallieu and La Pro 2, who are only three points behind and could move back to the top with a win this weekend.
