Middle East: tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, fragile ceasefire in Lebanon

Trump-Xi Jinping towards more “stability”?
Beijing will seek “more stability” in international relations, says Chinese diplomacy. Donald Trump is expected in China from May 13 to 15 to discuss the war in the Middle East, during which China is one of Iran’s main allies.
Donald Trump harshly rejected Iran’s response to the US proposals to end the war, once again threatening Tehran, accusing it of targeting its Gulf neighbors. “I just read the supposedly ‘representatives’ of Iran’s response. I don’t like it – IT’S TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!,” the US president wrote in capital letters on his Truth Social network.
More than a month after the start of the truce between the two belligerents, negotiations seem more deadlocked than ever and hopes of a resolution are uncertain, with none of the parties publicly revealing their proposals. After days of waiting, Iran announced on Sunday that it had responded to the American plan, but without detailing its response.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Tehran’s proposal includes a gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has blocked since the beginning of hostilities on February 28, and a simultaneous lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. According to the American newspaper, Tehran would also prefer to “dilute” some of its enriched uranium and send the rest to a “third country.” Washington and many countries suspect Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons through uranium enrichment, a claim it denies, defending its right to civilian nuclear power.

Strait of Hormuz: France has “never considered” a “deployment,” assures Emmanuel Macron
The UK and France are working to establish an international coalition to secure the strait after a conflict resolution. Any deployment will trigger a “decisive and immediate response” from the Iranian army, warned Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi after Paris and London announced the sending of military vessels to position themselves in the region. France has “never considered” a military deployment to Ormuz, but a security mission “in coordination with Iran,” President Emmanuel Macron clarified.
