“We can only regret the weakening of international organizations, starting with the UN, which seriously harms peace,” emphasized the president of the Conference of French Bishops.
The president of the Conference of French Bishops (CEF), Mgr Jean-Marc Aveline, described the geopolitical context in which we celebrate Easter this year as “dramatic and very worrying,” in an interview with La Tribune on Sunday. “For five weeks now, the Middle East has been caught in a merciless war,” he lamented, stating that “it is high time we return to respect for international law.”
“We can only regret the weakening of international organizations, starting with the UN, which seriously harms peace,” he stressed. “The security of a people, whoever they may be, cannot be obtained by nurturing hatred for others,” he judged.

“Call for Solidarity”
He reiterated his “call for solidarity” towards Lebanon, “always a victim of the great powers surrounding it,” through donations to the Œuvre d’Orient “with which the Church of France is very actively helping the Lebanese people and all Christians in the Middle East.”
When asked when Pope Leon XIV, who will receive Emmanuel Macron next Friday and is also scheduled to visit Spain in June, would come to France, Mgr Aveline assured that he was working on it. “I discussed the issue with the Pope a few days ago. For now, we must prepare our hearts to welcome his visit,” he responded.
