A few more years ago, AMD was primarily seen as a more affordable alternative to Intel processors. This image gradually disappeared with the arrival of Zen architecture then, above all, with the launch of models equipped with 3D V-Cache technology. Today, the situation has been completely reversed on the consumer market, to the point that AMD has just posted a particularly impressive performance on Amazon.

SaÅ¡a Marinković, senior director of AMD, recently highlighted a ranking showing that the fifteen best-selling processors on Amazon were all Ryzen models. A show of force which illustrates the brand’s current domination among gamers and PC assemblers, while Intel is struggling to regain its place in the consumer processor segment.

The Ryzen X3Ds continue to take AMD to the top

This domination is not really a surprise. For several years, Ryzen processors equipped with 3D V-Cache technology have established themselves as market benchmarks for video games. The arrival of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in 2022 had already marked a major turning point by offering performance capable of competing with more recent generations of processors.

AMD then continued this momentum with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D then Ryzen 7 9800X3D, models which quickly became the preferred choice for gamers looking to maximize their number of frames per second. Thanks to their additional cache memory, these processors regularly manage to outperform the best Intel chips in games, even when productivity performance remains relatively close.

Unsurprisingly, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D now occupies first place in sales on Amazon. The processor has become an essential reference for high-end gaming configurations and continues to attract enthusiasts despite a price higher than that of many competing models.

Old Ryzens hold up thanks to the AM4 platform

One of the most interesting aspects of this ranking concerns the massive presence of older processors. Models like the Ryzen 7 5800XT, Ryzen 5 5600 or even Ryzen 9 5900XT are still among the best sellers, despite their age.

This situation is largely explained by the current market context. DDR5 memory prices remain high and continue to rise in several regions around the world. Many users therefore prefer to keep or upgrade their AM4 platform rather than migrating to a more recent configuration requiring a new motherboard and DDR5 memory.

The exceptional longevity of the AM4 socket also works in AMD’s favor. Users can significantly improve the performance of their machine by simply replacing their processor, without having to completely rebuild their configuration.

Intel remains far behind in the consumer market

If the capture shared by AMD initially showed fifteen Ryzen processors occupying the top places in the ranking, the situation has evolved slightly since then. A Core Ultra 7 270K Plus managed to enter the ranking, but only around thirteenth position. Other Intel processors appear even further down the list.

This trend reflects a reality already observed at several specialized retailers in recent months. In certain stores, AMD regularly represents between 80 and 90% of sales of processors intended for the general public, particularly in the gaming segment.

The current results also show that AMD’s strategy is paying off in the long term. Between the performance of the A situation which allows it to maintain a comfortable lead over Intel among gamers, the main driver of the consumer processor market.
