And suddenly the beautiful lead is almost gone…
In the final stretch of the 2. Bundesliga season, Bochum has stumbled again. First, the unexpected home defeat against Kiel last week (2:3), now the clear 1:4 loss in Magdeburg. Despite still being in 10th place, VfL’s position is deceiving. The Pott-Club is only four points away from the relegation zone. It’s even more bitter that their form is steeply declining.
Alarm for relegation after Magdeburg defeat. Rösler slides into 1st VfL crisis.
Head coach Uwe Rösler (57) and his boys not only suffered two consecutive losses for the first time this season but also conceded four goals in a single match. The performance in Magdeburg, especially defensively, was extremely error-prone.
Rösler frustrated: “We wanted to be more compact at the back, but our defense was beaten twice by long balls. That was too easy, it shouldn’t happen to us.” And he continued: “Now the wind is blowing rougher again. The team must now show that they can handle the relegation battle.”
Interesting: With the 2-0 home win in the first leg (2.11.), Bochum’s slow starters climbed out of the bottom of the table and relegation zone on Matchday 11 for the first time. However, the relapse is now looming. The duel next Sunday at the Ruhrstadion against “chaser” Braunschweig (1:30 PM/live on Sky) already has a decisive character. Because the Lower Saxony team, currently in 14th place, can equal VfL’s points with a win and drag them deeper into the swamp.
Rösler’s promise: “We will do everything to prevent that from happening.” If it doesn’t work out, it’s “red alert” at the Castroper…
