The City of Carcassonne presented its budget devoted to culture for this year, which amounts to 7,200,549 euros.

“I think we are on a budget which is roughly equivalent to that of our predecessors,” explains Christophe Barthès, mayor of Carcassonne.

This budget helps support the city’s essential events throughout the year, including the Féria, the Carcassonne In and Off festivals, the Magic of Christmas and others…

The municipality ensures that “contrary to certain assertions relayed in recent months, the culture budget is maintained and does not decrease compared to previous years.” She underlines her desire to continue to promote Carcassonne while remaining faithful to its identity.

For its part, the municipal opposition, Carcassonne United on social networks, draws a different observation. The group believes that “this new edition of the Off Festival is announced through the back door, on the sly” and claims to have been right to warn of the consequences of the majority’s budgetary choices.

In 2026, the municipality will remain partly linked to the commitments already made. “We made choices on certain levers. We asked to re-study what had not been signed by the previous municipality. Everything that was planned will be generally maintained. But next year, we will put in place our own program, more festive and focused on tradition”, details the city councilor.

It also recalls the municipality’s ambition to preserve heritage, to promote traditions, to transmit history and to bring to life the events which bring together the people of Carcasson.
