Première partie
The concert tonight is part of the SuperPhonics program, which aims to introduce middle and high school students to contemporary music by listening to recent works and meeting composers of all styles and generations. This program, in existence since 2000, now reaches over 5000 young people from 135 institutions! Every year, it culminates in a day where the votes of the students are announced, leading to the creation of the winning piece of the previous year – in this case, N43 by Elisabeth Angot, offering a poetic journey in soundscapes.

The Concerto for Piano No. 2 by Sergei Prokofiev is a youthful composition that he later revised. Prior to this concerto, Prokofiev had another piano concerto from 1912, which he considered his first relatively mature work. Following this, he swiftly composed his second concerto in 1913, demonstrating a remarkable youthful savagery.

Seconde partie
To understand the genesis of the Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, we go back to 1892 when Antonín Dvořák took the helm at the New York Conservatory. Inspired by his experience in America, Dvořák composed this symphony in 1893, infusing it with themes inspired by Native Americans and Afro-Americans, creating a fusion of culture and sound.
