LE SCAN SPORT – The Argentine Tomás Martín Etcheverry did not appreciate the gesture made by his opponent, the Portuguese Nuno Borges, on match point, during the eighth-final of the ATP 500 in Barcelona.

They certainly won’t be dining together tonight. Nuno Borges and Tomás Martín Etcheverry did not part ways as friends this Wednesday afternoon, after their eighth-final match in Barcelona. All because of a gesture made by the Portuguese on his match point.

Instead of attempting a classic serve, the 52nd-ranked player ultimately decided to go for a spoon serve. A perfectly executed move, as his opponent was completely taken by surprise and did not touch the ball. An ace and therefore the match won for the Portuguese.

But the defeated one of the day, Tomás Martín Etcheverry, disappointed after the match point, did not appreciate this initiative. Without a glance at his opponent, he coldly shook hands with him before heading to his chair without a word. As for the Portuguese, he calmly celebrated his qualification for the quarter-finals of this ATP 500 tournament. He will face the Serbian qualifier Hamad Medjedovic in the next round, who surprisingly defeated the Australian Alex de Minaur, despite being the 3rd seed in Catalonia.
