Some Basic-Fit gyms are now open 24/7, with staff present during the day and an intercom contact at night, the group explains on its website. The company detailed that, for now, “no Basic-Fit employee was present on site” at night, but “only external staff responsible for maintenance and cleaning.”

With “this new model,” Basic-Fit will be able to completely do without staff during certain hours, especially after midnight and until early morning, when the number of visitors is below 20 people.

The chain expects to “achieve annual cost savings of approximately €10 million.” The company did not specify the impact on employment of its decision, but emphasized the importance of “keeping staff during the day.” French legislation, modified in December 2025, outlines several conditions for a facility to be open to the public without staff, including “a maximum of 19 authorized persons” and the presence of a “remote surveillance system.” Basic-Fit has received “confirmation from French authorities” that around 200 of its clubs meet these conditions. For the 100 clubs currently open 24/7 that do not meet these criteria, Basic-Fit will “maintain the presence of staff,” the chain highlighted.

Operating in twelve countries under two brands, Basic-Fit and Clever Fit, the group claims the title of “largest fitness chain in Europe,” with “over 2,150 clubs” and “5.8 million members.”
