On Saturday, March 14, the Sports and Culture association played a key role by organizing the screening of the France-England rugby match on a big screen, followed by an Irish-themed Saint Patrick’s evening. The people of Verdun are avid fans of the Six Nations Tournament. In past years, they didn’t hesitate to travel to the capital to support the French team at Parc des Princes. Before the match, an aperitif was shared to get everyone in the mood for the game. The suspense was real, and the 70 participants at the event were enthralled for 80 minutes. At halftime and after the game, the Laurac du Connemara group took over from the big screen with a concert of Irish music, much appreciated by the audience who joined in singing along. The evening included sports, music, and most importantly, a meal featuring Irish dishes like salad, beef stew, potatoes, and “poster cake”. All prepared by volunteers, dessert by the president, meat by the treasurer, and the rest by the secretary, along with numerous others who helped with organizing the event. Next up, mark your calendars for a hike on Sunday, April 12, and a plant exchange on April 26, a highly anticipated event in 2025.
