Recently installed in the town, a group of musicians sharing a house has reopened the doors of the old village school to offer concerts. For the past three years, the “L’école buissonnière” evenings have been enlivening the evenings in Marssac.
“At first, it started with our neighbor, we would get together to make music and have a good time. But very quickly we thought it was a shame that there weren’t more people,” explains Paul. The desire to open the door to the rest of the village quickly became evident.
“And then we wanted to create a meeting space, because it’s a bit lacking here.” This is how the “L’école buissonnière” evenings were born. During the week, on a “end of the day” format for the whole family: they quickly found their audience.
To structure the project, the four roommates created the “Mercredimanche” association with the support of the municipality, which provides the old village school. The meeting is now once a month during the summer, from 6 pm to 10 pm.
The event intentionally remains small-scale. “It’s not a big festival,” say the organizers, who welcome an average of a hundred people per evening. After three seasons, the initiative continues to slowly grow.
These meetings have also become a local affair.
Each meeting offers one or two concerts as well as a small show – theater, clown, or circus. A “criée” is organized to conclude the meeting: the audience is invited to slip small notes into a hat, announcements or poetic texts, which are then read aloud.
The programming aims to be eclectic and inclusive. “We are very attached to the diversity of the audience. We see retirees who knew this school, families with children, young people… Everyone comes to be surprised by the programming,” rejoice the organizers.
These meetings have also become a local affair. The brewers of Marssac provide the beer, food trucks set up outside, and volunteers run the bar. Market gardeners, retirees, members of the festival committee mobilize and provide equipment.
The upcoming dates are scheduled for Wednesdays, May 6, June 17, July 15, September 16, and October 14. A monthly meeting that, over the seasons, is becoming a staple in the Marssac calendars. A successful reflection of a desire for meetings, and artistic journeys starting from home.
