Don’t wait for the T14 Gen 7: Why this older AMD ThinkPad is worth it

The new generation of Lenovo’s classic T-series ThinkPads, their core line of large business laptops, has many people excited: The new Lenovo ThinkPad 2026 models feature a more serviceable design and a more powerful 75Wh battery. For that alone, the new Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD is worth waiting for, not to mention the Intel version with Panther Lake and LPCAMM2 memory.

However, there is a good reason not to wait: There is a good reason NOT to wait for the new model. Simply the price.

We recently reviewed the 2025 model in the series, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6. In our full review, this older version showed that it was still going strong. This older version showed that it still offered excellent performance and battery life, with almost 14 hours in our tests. More importantly, it’s still priced like a 2025 laptop: Amazon offers a version of the ThinkPad with the same Ryzen AI 7 Pro 350 processor we tested for around $1,200.

That’s a price we won’t see on the new Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 AMD, with not only RAM prices rising at an explosive rate. And while the larger 75Wh battery is a real advantage of the new model that may be worth the wait if you’re a road warrior, AMD Ryzen AI 400 offers little incentive to pay the extra money, as it’s simply an upgrade from older Ryzen AI 300 CPUs.

This is why we advise you to buy a ThinkPad T14 Gen: Buy an AMD ThinkPad T14 Gen 6, while there is one. The AMD ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 looks like a great upgrade, but it will be expensive.
