Minisforum first showed off the N5 MAX AI NAS in mid-March when the company announced that the model would be powered by AMD’s powerful AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, making it ideal for running OpenClaw locally via the MiniCloud OS https://minicloud.com/ in addition to extensive NAS functions. The company has just released more details on the specifications of this new NAS unit, also mentioning April 23, which will likely be the date when availability and pricing will be revealed.

The latest Minisforum X post mentions that the N5 MAX would offer up to 126 TOPS of AI computing power thanks to AMD’s Strix Halo workstation processor with INTEGRATED Radeon 8060S technology. Unlike other Strix Halo models which have 128GB of RAM, the N5 MAX is equipped with 64GB of LPDDR5X, most likely because Minisforum wants to present a more acceptable cost given the current RAM shortage RAM shortage.

On the storage side, the N5 MAX promises to be a solid NAS solution that supports up to 200 TB via 5 HDD slots + 5 SSD slots. To keep all of these components, including the AMD APU, functioning optimally, the N5 MAX chassis features an advanced cooling system with a multi-fan design. Like Minisforum’s newest mini PCs, the N5 MAX is also said to feature the new USB4 v2 standard with transfer rates of 80Gbps, while the networking component is solid with two 10Gbps network cards.

If Minisforum manages to offer this model for less than $2,000, it could be a great alternative to many of the available Strix Halo models that cost over $2,300, with the added bonus of a great NAS system, but with half the RAM capacity.
