Dan Reynolds, singer of the American rock group Imagine Dragons, announced the launch this Tuesday, April 14, of a video game on PC.
The singer of the American rock group Imagine Dragons is launching “Last Flag” on Tuesday, a PC video game inspired by his childhood in the scouts and developed with his brother, who is also the manager of the quartet.
“It’s not just a passion project, we’ve been working on it for over five years now,” said Dan Reynolds during an online exchange with journalists, a few weeks before the game’s release.
At the head of Night Street Games, a studio of around thirty people that they founded in 2020, Dan and his brother Mac have discreetly worked on a “capture the flag” game where two teams of five players compete online.
Objective: hide your own banner as best you can and steal that of your opponents.
Raised in a “slightly geeky” family
“I grew up in a family of eight boys and one girl, and we were all slightly ‘geek’ kids,” recalls the 38-year-old singer, for whom creating his own video game “was a childhood dream.”
At the end of the 2000s, while he was planning to develop his first game with his older brother, he started a university group called Imagine Dragons and “there, it totally exploded”, rewinds this fan of the games “Starcraft” and “League of Legends”.
Known for internationally successful tracks like “Believer” and “Thunder,” Imagine Dragons have since become one of the most followed pop rock groups in the world, totaling more than 74 million albums sold and 160 billion streams, according to their label Warner Music Group.
“The last 15 years have been incredible, but we kept saying ‘what if we started making games together?'” Dan Reynolds continues.
A game that recalls the atmosphere of Fortnite
To imagine this title with its colorful graphics and very “seventies” atmosphere, the two brothers were inspired by their summer vacations at a scout camp, where they played a similar game in the woods.
If the game recalls the atmosphere of “Fortnite”, one of the most popular in the world, Mac Reynolds ensures that “Last Flag” stands out by favoring the capture of objectives over the simple elimination of one’s opponents.
The game tackles the very competitive sector of online shooting games, which has seen in recent years several big productions like “Concord” and “Highguard” be quickly disconnected due to lack of players.
But “even if the competition is tough, a new shooter can break through if it offers something different”, wants to believe the manager of Imagine Dragons.
A release on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series consoles is also planned for later in the year.
