Two people are unaccounted for following a house fire near Bundaberg over the weekend.

Police are investigating the blaze in the remote rural area of Good Night and are looking for the pair, in their 70s, who lived on the property.

Police arrived to find the house at Booyal Crossing Road fully engulfed in flames about 9:15pm on Saturday.

Nine Queensland Fire Department crews battled the fire after they were alerted by multiple Triple Zero (000) calls.

The fire was out by 11:30pm, but the roof of the single-storey property collapsed and the building was destroyed.

Bundaberg Chief Inspector Grant Marcus said the fire was being treated as suspicious and would be a crime scene for the next two to three days while investigations were underway.

“We do know the house was completely engulfed, which makes trying to determine the location [of the start of the fire] difficult, which is why we need to render the house safe,” he said.

Work is currently underway to remove the roof of the house for scientific and fire investigators.

“They have been using drone equipment to get an aerial view of what’s going on,” he said.

“We can also use that footage to zoom in on certain parts of the house and also try and use that equipment to identify where the main heat source may have been”

Police are appealing to anyone with information or images that may assist investigations to come forward.
