Bad news for the few fans who had pinned their hopes on PUBG: Blindspot, the top-down tactical shooter signed by the ARC team. The game has just announced its definitive closure, barely two months after its early access release. It’s safe to say that the game is over much sooner than expected.
An ambitious concept that didn’t survive
Launched on February 5th on Steam, PUBG: Blindspot was meant to be a fresh experience in the tactical genre: 5v5 top-down gameplay, with intense gunfights and strategy-oriented gameplay. On paper, it sounded promising. In practice, it seems like it wasn’t enough to convince a sufficient number of players to keep the project viable.
The development team officially announced the server closure for March 30, 2025, thus bringing an end to the adventure after only a few weeks of existence. Sequoia Yang, a member of the ARC team, spoke on the game’s Steam page to explain the decision, admitting that despite all their efforts to improve the experience, it had become impossible to maintain the game under proper conditions.
“PUBG: Blindspot was a bold attempt to explore new possibilities in the top-down tactical shooter space. Throughout this journey, the feedback and support from our players have been immensely valuable to the team and will continue to guide our future projects. To all those who believed in this game and supported its direction, we sincerely thank you. The ARC team will take time to regroup, and we hope to come back with new experiences in the future.” – Sequoia Yang, ARC team
An uncertain future for the ARC team
What is somewhat reassuring in all of this is that the team does not seem to want to give up entirely. The message suggests that they will take time to regroup before returning with new projects. Player feedback will apparently be taken into account for the future, which raises hope that the mistakes of Blindspot will serve as lessons for their next productions.
For players who have spent money on the game, it’s better to quickly check the reimbursement conditions on Steam before the fateful date of March 30. After that, the servers will definitively close, and there won’t be much left of this adventure that ended too soon.
An increasingly ruthless market
The story of PUBG: Blindspot highlights how extremely difficult it has become to conquer the online multiplayer gaming market. Even with a recognized license like PUBG in the name, success is not guaranteed. Players have plenty of options, and a new title must establish itself quickly, or risk losing its community before even having the chance to grow.
So, a sudden end to this unique spin-off, but perhaps the beginning of a new adventure for the ARC team. Stay tuned.
