The 41.1 update of PUBG delivers a strong blow by introducing a cooperative roguelite mode in the face of an extraterrestrial threat. With the highly anticipated crossover with Stellar Blade, the return of the aespa group, and the arrival of destructible terrain on Erangel, the battlegrounds will shake.
As PUBG celebrated its 9th anniversary last month, the popular Battle Royale game by Krafton continues to update, with this time version 41.1 marking a major turning point. This new version introduces an array of innovations that promise to redefine the survival experience, blending science fiction, prestigious collaborations, and deep tactical adjustments.
An extraterrestrial threat descends on Miramar with Xeno Point
The major addition of this patch is undoubtedly the arrival of Xeno Point, a PvE cooperative game mode with roguelite elements. Players are called to repel an extraterrestrial invasion on the Miramar map, which is immersed in a cosmic horror atmosphere for the occasion. This mode breaks with the traditional formula by offering randomly generated levels and a character progression system.
Survivors start in a central hub before embarking on missions in various regions. The ultimate goal is to defeat a formidable boss named the Architect. To achieve this, players can customize their playstyle with specific abilities focused on attack, defense, or support. KRAFTON emphasizes the intentions behind this innovative mode: Xeno Point combines PUBG’s realistic combat with enemies, abilities, and extraterrestrial technologies, providing a different experience in each match.
EVE from Stellar Blade and the return of aespa
The other major event of this update is the highly anticipated crossover with the action game Stellar Blade. The protagonist EVE becomes part of the Workshop system as the ultimate contender. This feature allows players to unlock and customize premium outfits. EVE benefits from a unique visual progression, with her outfits and hairstyle evolving as players level up. Fans can dress her in her iconic costume and use various themed cosmetics.
Concurrently, the publisher listened to the community by reintroducing a collaboration with the famous K-pop group aespa. From April 22 to 30, players will have a new opportunity to acquire outfits, emotes, and weapon skins inspired by the South Korean quartet.
Terrain destruction and arsenal revamp
In terms of gameplay, the historic Erangel map finally benefits from the destructible terrain feature. With explosives or a pickaxe, players can now dig trenches to create makeshift shelters. This new tactical addition comes with the introduction of two weapon modules, the hybrid scope allowing for instant switching between a single and quadruple magnification, and the angled grip designed to better control recoil.
Developers have also rebalanced some weapons, notably reducing the recoil of the Dragunov significantly. However, a more radical announcement was made regarding the future of the arsenal. As of June, several underused weapons will be removed from the game, such as the Mosin Nagant, DP-28, and P1911.
Furthermore, new strategic mechanics make their appearance, such as the distress flare to call for defensive supply drops, or the ability to sacrifice enemy blue chips at transmission towers for equipment.
All of this is now available on PC and will arrive on consoles on April 16.
