Nearly a decade after redefining the battle royale genre, PUBG celebrates its ninth anniversary with the 40.2 update. The festivities include new events on Rondo, major adjustments for Vikendi, and an exclusive music collaboration with ALLDAY PROJECT.

On March 23, 2017, a highly anticipated title appeared on Steam, shaking up the gaming industry. Nine years have passed since the launch of PUBG, a game that not only popularized the battle royale genre but also brought together over three million simultaneous players. To mark its ninth birthday, Krafton releases update 40.2 as a true declaration of love to its global community.

Grand Celebrations on the Battlefields

The starting rule transforms for the occasion, with developers introducing a large commemorative statue that survivors can interact with before jumping from the plane. By successfully landing nine precise throws with holographic incapacitating grenades, this structure will take on the appearance of your own avatar. A personalized touch that sets the tone for this festive event.

The celebrations take on a special significance on the Rondo map. The battlefield is decorated with ephemeral shops and billboards celebrating this anniversary. The most attentive players may even have the chance to encounter the Chicken Man, a special character distributing lucky eggs containing valuable loot, from level three equipment to powerful weapons, including an exclusive camouflage outfit designed for this ninth year.

To accompany these novelties, Krafton offers a new event pass with numerous missions. Participants can unlock thematic cosmetic items, festive emotes, and virtual currency to enrich their collection. Commemorative drone shows also light up the sky on different maps.

Tactical Adjustments for Vikendi and Arcade Modes

In addition to the celebrations, update 40.2 brings structural improvements. The snowy Vikendi map receives special attention, with secret rooms expanding their tactical equipment to alter approach strategies. Some doors that were previously locked are now replaced with standard access points, smoothing progression and accessibility during intense combat.

Arcade modes are not left behind. The team deathmatch now features map selection probabilities based on community preferences. The intense battle royale mode also receives an update to its supply crates, further enhancing combat pace. PC content creators benefit from a new feature to detail their custom modes.

Explosive Musical Collaboration

To top off this anniversary, Krafton partners with international artist ALLDAY PROJECT. Together, they unveil an exclusive track titled “I DONT BARGAIN.” This unique piece perfectly captures the competitive spirit and survival instinct that have driven players from the game’s inception.

The official video concludes on a touching note, as the iconic level three helmet fills with congratulatory messages from enthusiasts worldwide. A beautiful reminder that, nine years later, the community remains the beating heart of the ultimate survival experience.

Now available on PC, update 40.2 will be deployed on consoles on March 19.
