Robyn, the Swedish pop sensation known for hits like “Show Me Love,” “Do You Know (What It Takes),” and the iconic “Dancing On My Own,” has established herself as a powerhouse in the music scene since the 1990s. Her latest album, “Sexistential,” is her first release since 2018, and her thoughts on the project are revealing: “I feel like the purpose of my life is to stay ‘horny’ – it’s not necessarily about sex, but more about feeling desire, being attracted to what I love, and not letting anything else take over.”
The critics have weighed in on “Sexistential.” Zoé Sfez commented: “Robyn has been living in London for years, and I think the music on this album fits the city very well. She creates a completely delirious energy, but it’s also dark. It’s the music of a violent city, wondering how to survive in that violence. Robyn is a virtuoso whose music, in my opinion, chills the blood.”
Olivier Lamm highlighted Robyn’s unique status in Sweden and globally, applauding her influence on a new generation of pop stars who embrace being in the minority. Lamm noted, “It’s paradoxical since pop music is supposed to appeal to the masses, but Robyn’s music speaks through melody in the most effective and stimulating way.”
On another note, Thundercat’s track “Distracted” is gaining attention, with Lamm describing the artist as a potential pop star who embodies the essence of modern bass playing.
