The question remains: Is fame always a hindrance to love stories? According to Elie Semoun, the answer is often yes. The comedian, who became a father again at the age of 61 last year, had many romantic setbacks before finding solace in the arms of Aude Fraineau, with whom he now has a few months old son. He had already experienced fatherhood with his son Antoine, born in 1995 from his previous marriage with Annie Florence Jeannesson, from whom he separated in 2002.

In the podcast “La Fame”, the comedian opened up about this visible breakup. Especially since his fame skyrocketed during their marriage: “It’s very difficult to start from the bottom, unknown, and then become very famous, not all at once but almost, all while balancing couple life,” he said.

Elie Semoun in “La Séduction”: the reasons for his divorce revealed

Elie Semoun explains how fame can break a relationship: “You’re in seduction, so it inevitably causes problems in the relationship because women look at you differently. It was funny because when I was filming in New York, I saw my true value as a man: it was zero. I got divorced around 37/38 years old and it doesn’t surprise me because I needed to live my fame alone,” he reminisces, aware that fame attracts attention and that relationships with women progress much faster.

“The girls who didn’t pay attention to me before, sometimes beautiful girls, they notice me now. It’s really enjoyable. Being famous is part of your charm,” he adds. This seduction did not help sustain his relationship with his next partner either. “Being stopped in the street is annoying for girlfriends, especially since I started dating an artist, a dancer at the Paris Opera, who needed to have the spotlight on her. But people were completely indifferent to her, even though she was sublime. It was complicated,” he recalls.

Elie Semoun: his fears following his divorce from Annie Florence Jeannesson

In a previous interview, Elie Semoun had already confided about the “shitty” period that was his divorce. He struggled a lot to explain the separation to his 7-year-old son at the time. “My fear was to completely disturb him (Antoine, his son). At the time, I was with someone Antoine didn’t like. It was quite violent,” he says about his son, who has Asperger’s syndrome and has now found his passion in painting after his parents’ divorce. A beautiful chapter in life.
