Elisabeth Leonskaja. Certainly she has been programmed several times at the L’Esprit du piano festival in Bordeaux, but one never tires of hearing Elisabeth Leonskaja, the immense artist born in Russia in 1945 but Viennese since 1978. On Sunday, April 19, she will unite her two countries of heart with Mozart, Schoenberg, and Schubert, her favorite, as well as Shostakovich’s Sonata No. 2, a composer she had the privilege of meeting.
The Janoska Ensemble. Certainly the Slovak ensemble formed by the Janoska brothers (two violins and a piano) and their brother-in-law on the double bass does not adhere to the original score of Bach’s “Aria,” Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” or “Carmen,” but by blending jazz and pop elements, they give them an irresistible personal style that has made them famous worldwide and will still excite the audience on Tuesday, April 21.
The Modigliani Quartet. Certainly the Modigliani Quartet, artistic director of the festival, is also the artistic director of the Bordeaux festival Vibre! where they will perform on May 26, but on April 22 they will present a completely different program with “La oración del torero” by Turina, describing the feelings of a bullfighter preparing to enter the arena, then Haydn’s last completed of the 68 string quartets (Opus 77 No. 2), and finally Beethoven’s 15th culminating in a “Sacred song of thanksgiving from a convalescent to the Deity.”
The Curious Bards and Ilektra Platiopoulou. Certainly you may have already heard The Curious Bards in Lacanau (33) or Pranzac (16) this month but you will equally enjoy listening to a completely different program of 18th-century Scottish and Irish music on Thursday, April 23, curated by violinist Alix Boivert and mezzo-soprano Ilektra Platiopoulou.
Trio con Brio Copenhagen. Certainly there are excellent trios in France for violin, cello, and piano, but the Trio con Brio from Copenhagen is considered one of the best in the world and has not performed in France for many years. Therefore, do not miss the chance to listen to their interpretation of Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Lili Boulanger on Saturday, April 25.
Capuçon and Bellom. Certainly violinist Renaud Capuçon and pianist Guillaume Bellom performed together last February in Bordeaux, but it was sold out. However, there are still seats available to listen to them play the three Sonatas of Brahms on Sunday, April 26, so don’t miss out!
