The opening of the exhibition “Routes du maquis, chemins d’espoir et de liberté” will take place on Thursday, April 16th at the Memorial, starting at 6 pm. The presentation traces the underground routes taken by anti-Franco guerillas between France and Spain, from the end of World War II until the 1950s.

Through archives, testimonies, and photographs, it highlights the role of the Pyrénées-Orientales as a passage and resistance territory, as well as the commitment of those who continued the fight against the Franco dictatorship at the risk of their lives. Free admission.

At 8 pm, the film “L’aura du chemin” will be screened. Its director, Jacobo Sucari, is a researcher and teacher. He experienced exile following the 1976 coup in Argentina, which sparked his interest in the figure and work of Walter Benjamin, who also lived in exile. Viewers will see archive footage, hear readings from his writings, explore landscapes, and follow the stories of various personalities. The documentary recounts the history of Benjamin and the path that carries both historical memory, reflections on exile, and the philosopher’s thoughts. [Context: The exhibition and film screening are part of an event highlighting historical and cultural significance.] [Fact Check: The entry fee is 5 euros per person (free for those under 18). Registration is required: billetterie@memorialcamprivesaltes.fr or call 04 68 08 39 70.]
