On March 26, family members of Lionel Jospin, prominent figures from the Socialist Party, and personalities from the world of culture attended the national tribute to the former Socialist Prime Minister at the Hotel des Invalides, before his burial at the Montparnasse cemetery.
A grand and moving farewell. On March 26, President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron presided over the national tribute to Lionel Jospin at the Hotel des Invalides in the southern courtyard of the Dome. The former Prime Minister’s close relatives, who passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, March 22, were all in attendance. His wife, the philosopher Sylviane Agacinski, and their two children, Hugo and Eva Jospin, both from his first marriage to Élisabeth Dannenmuller, arrived together.
Emmanuel Macron warmly greeted them before delivering the eulogy, solemnly facing Lionel Jospin’s casket, which entered the Hotel des Invalides around 11 am. Notably, several socialists were present, including François Hollande, and former Prime Ministers Laurent Fabius, Édith Cresson, Jean-Marc Ayrault, and Manuel Valls. Jack Lang, former Minister of Culture, was also there despite his involvement in the Epstein scandal. Personalities from the world of cinema and music such as Chiara Mastroianni, daughter of Catherine Deneuve, Marianne James, and Gérard Hernandez were also photographed at the Invalides.
After the national tribute, Lionel Jospin’s family members went to the Montparnasse cemetery for his burial. Along the way, Éva Jospin was particularly moved and shed a few tears. The 51-year-old artist was especially close to her father, who always took care of her despite his political responsibilities as she revealed to Le Monde in 2023. Her husband Adriano Valerio was by her side to support her, along with their 10-year-old son, Carlo.
