Chevrolet introduced the eighth-generation mid-engine Corvette in July 2019. The manufacturer faced significant production delays due to strikes and the pandemic. Since then, Chevy has expanded the C8 lineup with the Z06, E-Ray, ZR1, and most recently, the Grand Sport – which will be the final variation of the Corvette lineup.

In a podcast interview on The Gas podcast, Josh Holder, chief engineer of the Corvette, explained that they are always improving and refining aspects of the model. The Grand Sport typically arrives towards the end of a generation’s lifecycle, following a familiar recipe seen in previous generations.

Holder did not specify when to expect the Corvette C9, saying they are continuously working on the next Corvette model. If Chevrolet maintains a similar pace as before, the C9 could potentially debut in 2030 or 2031.

The 2027 Grand Sport will feature a new-generation V8 LS6 engine from General Motors, boasting a 6.7-liter capacity, producing 535 horsepower and 705 Nm of torque. The Grand Sport fits between the entry-level Stingray and the more radical Z06, offering dynamic attributes at a more accessible price point. Chevrolet also introduced the Grand Sport X, a hybrid version combining the LS6 with the ZR1X’s hybrid system, generating 721 horsepower – surpassing the Z06. The Grand Sport X will replace the E-Ray as well.

This marks the current pinnacle of the C8 evolution. Chevrolet hinted at potential custom orders and unique creations before the arrival of the next generation, possibly the C10 in the future.
