Munich – It comes as a bit of a surprise and is likely the result of a positive development. Star defender Giulia Gwinn (25) has praised all club bosses ahead of the Women’s Champions League quarter-final match on Wednesday (6:45 pm/live on Disney+) against Manchester United (first leg 3:2). The German national team player said on Tuesday in response to a question from BILD: “The support from the Bayern bosses has always been very, very good.”

The unexpected part: a year ago, Gwinn publicly expressed her disappointment with the men’s department officials. During half-time of the DFB-Pokal semi-final against Hoffenheim (3:2) she was asked by “Sky” about the absence of all bosses from the men’s section in the stadium, to which Gwinn replied: “It’s a bit of a shame. I think it’s one of the biggest games when you look at all the competitions. Very, very unfortunate.”

This anger seems to have completely dissipated by now! The Bayern player explains: “Of course, it’s always a nice sign for us when someone is on site. And that’s always the case, which is a very positive signal for the women’s department. What many people don’t see is especially the support behind the scenes. It’s really outstanding, both for us players and in general. One simply has the feeling that women’s football at Bayern Munich has a very high priority.”

Seventh women’s game at the Allianz Arena

At least a few of the men’s bosses are likely to come to the stadium for the Champions League clash against United. For the third women’s game at the Allianz Arena this season (seven in total so far), over 20,000 tickets have already been sold.

By the way: Should Gwinn and her teammates reach the Champions League semi-finals for the third time in the history of Bayern women (April 26 and May 3), they will face the winner of the duel between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid (first leg 6:2). And thus, another exciting match awaits at the Allianz Arena!
