Arsenal’s victory over Sporting Lisbon (0-1) on Tuesday in the Champions League quarter-final first leg allows England to secure one of the two additional spots for the next edition. According to Football Meets Data, the Premier League is set to have at least five representatives in the Champions League in 2026-2027. With 25.013 in the UEFA ranking in 2025-2026 and five representatives in European competitions, England has solidified its position in the top two. This is bad news for France, as they are mathematically unable to reach the top two. The two additional spots were integrated for the first time last season as part of the Champions League format restructuring. England had already taken advantage of this in 2024-2025. In addition to their extra spot earned from the UEFA coefficient this season, England even had a sixth representative in the Champions League. Tottenham secured their spot by winning the Europa League against Manchester United in the final.
