There are goalless draws that embrace boredom, while others leave the protagonists with a sense of great frustration. At the end of the Stade Briochin-FC Villefranche-Beaujolais match, one had to observe the final attitudes of the players to realize how much this 0-0 draw had been an uncertain battle for everyone.

On the ground, Bretons were seen perhaps replaying in their minds all the missed opportunities along the way. And the Caladois, hands on hips, feeling their duty accomplished, perhaps thinking of a missed chance, so far from Beaujolais.

But inevitably, it will remain that this 0-0 draw between the Briochins playing one of their final cards for survival, and the well-organized Caladois prone to losing the ball, was very lively, open without knowing who deserved the three points the most in the match.

Objectively, one might lean towards the lost chance by the Bretons, who failed to, or rather could not, put the best goalkeeper in the National League to the test: the indomitable Sullivan Paeaan.

Saint-Brieuc wanted it so badly…

The man of the match was a Caladois. Once again. From the beginning, in his box, Paeaan was at work, already fiercely attacked by Beghin’s triple attempt, the deceitful center-shot, the subsequent corner given to Janna and then to Gomis, two clear attempts with the head, summoning the first decisive saves of the Caladois goalkeeper.

It was quickly understood that Saint-Brieuc would not sit back in their own half to seek a victory that was so crucial in their aspirations to climb the rankings, towards those like Chateauroux, QRM, Bourg, who will fight till the end to secure their spot in the upcoming Ligue 3.

As Villefranche, sharp in transitions, had real chances to open the scoring (Keita, 20th, Touho caught at the last moment by Diakhabi, 13th), with a lot of wastage in the last twenty meters, Saint-Brieuc began to accumulate regrets through Gomis, on a corner, hindered by the reflexes of Paeaan, Janno then bowing in a lost duel against the same Paeaan.

Paeaan was everywhere…

And like it was written in advance, the Caladois goalkeeper had the last word, adding an extra point to his team’s roadmap – the first team in the relegation zone is nine points behind, four steps away from the finish line – thus achieving his third consecutive match away without conceding a goal in National, remaining solid until the end.
