The first opportunity was for Laurent Peyrelade’s visitors but Texier’s shot missed the target (16th). The Basques’ response was quick. The two shots from Taounti which were too weak did not worry Malek (18th, 19th), but the danger came a little later with a triple save in front of the line: Malek diverted Ariztimuno and Renard’s attempts before getting help from Missaoui’s return on Vallejo’s shot (21st).
But the goal was only postponed. A ball lost by the visitors on a throw-in thirty meters from their goal allowed Renard to recover the ball and slip it to Vallejo in the right side of the box. His back pass found Esteve’s victorious strike (29th, 1-0). An opening goal that was finally logical considering the recent dominance of the Genoese. Vallejo himself saw a goal disallowed for a prior foul by Ariztimuno on the visiting goalkeeper Malek (32nd).
Attack versus defense
The second half was more fragmented. The Agathois invaded the Angloy camp, took numerous corners but without real danger for Giffard. In this low period, the Genoese struck on the counter. Vallejo shifted Renard to the left, who sent a cross to Ariztimuno at the far post, who then scored (63rd, 2-0).
