Since Russia’s large-scale invasion over four years ago, continuous bombings by Russia have claimed thousands of civilian lives and targeted Ukraine’s energy supply, disrupting industrial production and depriving civilians of heating and running water in winter.

However, the ongoing war in Iran has diverted attention from Ukraine’s needs, particularly for Patriot systems to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
As the conflict in Iran enters its sixth week, it has ripple effects on the global economy and regional stability, putting more pressure on Ukraine’s limited resources. Russian attacks on Ukrainian oil facilities have escalated, prompting Ukraine to step up drone attacks on Russian installations.
Zelensky proposed sharing Ukraine’s battlefield expertise in countering Iranian attacks with the US and allies to develop effective countermeasures. Ukraine has swiftly adapted its drone capabilities to counter Russian drones, showcasing its innovation and technological prowess.
In a bid to maintain international focus on Ukraine, Zelensky positioned Ukraine as a key partner in maritime security and proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz with Ukraine’s expertise in securing Black Sea maritime corridors. Recent diplomatic efforts include forging new defense agreements between Ukraine and Turkey, and exploring potential security alliances in the Gulf.
Meanwhile, as Russia intensifies its offensive annually, Ukraine prepares for a new Russian army offensive in undermanned defense positions, particularly in strategic areas where Russian troops are attempting to breach Ukrainian lines.
Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s stance against territorial compromises, emphasizing that Ukraine will not yield to Russian pressure. Recent drone attacks in Ukrainian cities have caused casualties, further escalating tensions in the region.
