“We all know who we are dealing with.” Ukrainian President Zelensky stated in a social media post on April 11th that Ukraine will “respect the ceasefire” agreed with Russia’s Putin. However, he warned that Kiev will respond equally if Moscow violates the agreement, as the ceasefire went into effect on Saturday afternoon.

The Kremlin proposed a ceasefire on Thursday, which Kiev accepted, lasting until the end of Sunday, a 32-hour period. Zelensky hopes that “a ceasefire at Easter could also mark the beginning of a true movement towards peace,” mentioning that “Ukraine has proposed various ceasefire formats to Russia multiple times.” He also stated that he has provided Russia with “information” about possible Ukrainian retaliation and the potential extension of the ceasefire beyond Orthodox Easter.

Hours before the official ceasefire, deadly strikes continued between the two sides. At least four people were killed in Ukraine, with two casualties from a Russian strike in the Odessa region, and two from a Ukrainian strike in an occupied area of Donetsk region. Russian bombings also resulted in 14 injuries in the Sumy region and 10 in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region.
