The United Kingdom is taking a tougher stance against Donald Trump. Health Minister Wes Streeting has criticized his “incendiary” remarks and called for his actions to be judged, as new peace negotiations are set to take place next week.
After refusing to participate in the conflict against Iran despite pressure from the United States, the British government is highly critical of Donald Trump. British Health Minister Wes Streeting denounced Donald Trump’s handling of the war in the Middle East on Sunday, April 12. “Over the past week, President Trump has made bold, incendiary, provocative, and scandalous statements on social media,” said the British minister to Sky News and reported by Le Parisien.
“I think we all understand that President Trump should be judged by his actions, not his words,” Wes Streeting added. According to him, there needs to be a distinction between words that may be shocking and reality. Indeed, on Tuesday, April 7, Donald Trump threatened to destroy the entire Iranian civilization in a post on his social media platform Truth if the proposed agreement was rejected. “I don’t think it’s controversial to say that posting a threat on social media to end the Iranian civilization is quite extraordinary,” affirmed Wes Streeting.
The United Kingdom to Host New Negotiations
The initial negotiations for a lasting peace between Iran and the United States, under the auspices of Pakistan, ended in failure. The United Kingdom will host new talks next week on reopening navigation routes in the Strait of Hormuz. “It is obviously disappointing not to have seen a breakthrough in the negotiations or a lasting end to this war in Iran,” Wes Streeting stated. “As always in diplomacy, we fail until we succeed. So, even if these discussions have not led to a resolution, it doesn’t mean there’s no merit in continuing to try,” he declared.
