BLITAR – The PDIP central executive board insists on the principle of a free and active foreign policy in response to the political situation in the Middle East, as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution.

The Secretary General of the PDIP PDI Perjuangan, Hasto Kristiyanto, declared on Sunday that the nation’s founders, especially Bung Karno (the first President of Indonesia Soekarno) and Bung Hatta (the first Vice President of Indonesia Mohammad Hatta), had laid a solid foundation.

“Indonesian independence is a sign of freedom for the colonized peoples of Asia and Africa. That is why independence, as the right of all peoples, must be defended and cannot be retracted,” he stated in Blitar, as reported by Antara.

Hasto further emphasized during a visit to Bung Karno’s tomb in Blitar city that independence should not be contradicted by an action of a superpower against a sovereign state.

According to him, these are the principles of a free and active foreign policy, ensuring that the Indonesian government is firmly supported by the mission of upholding the 1945 Constitution.

The president, he said, has also been in contact with President Prabowo Subianto, discussing national issues and geopolitical problems. The outcomes of these discussions were also explained, with the key point being that the nation’s leaders must unite.

Moreover, Megawati also shared her experiences with President Prabowo, stating that she and other country leaders had previously been invited to meet, but at the time, President Prabowo had events outside the region.

PDIP, he said, also provides stronger recommendations on Indonesia’s foreign policy stance.

Hasto explained that Indonesian independence aimed to build global fraternity, so as a nation that has experienced oppression, the spirit of independence is for all nations.

“The occupation of the world must be eliminated because it goes against the principles of humanity and justice. This is what all presidents must pursue,” stated Hasto.

He added that following the path of Bung Karno, who fought for the nation’s independence, is an example, and it is hoped that it continues in a free and active foreign policy.

Meanwhile, the PDIP central executive board president Megawati Soekarnoputri visited her father Bung Karno’s tomb in Blitar city. Megawati was accompanied by her family and party’s top leaders. During the visit, the group prayed together and laid flowers, before continuing their journey.
