A walker made a surprising discovery on Thursday, April 9th, near the customs trail, close to the nose of Jobourg, in Cotentin. In the afternoon, he spotted a metallic object, characteristic of an old shell. He immediately alerted the authorities.
The marked path for hikers And the walker was right to be concerned. Quickly on site, the military confirmed that it was probably a device dating back to the Second World War, on this trail that was affected by a fire last summer and is well known to hikers. The municipality has marked the trail, without completely prohibiting access to hikers. The Caen demining services are expected to intervene soon to take charge of and secure the device.
An unexceptional discovery in the department According to authorities, it is likely a relic from the conflicts and coastal defenses that marked the peninsula of La Hague during the Second World War. This type of discovery is occasional but not exceptional on the Manche coast, where several shells or old munitions have already been uncovered over the years, often due to erosion.
