China reaffirms Vietnam’s priority in neighboring foreign policy

According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Beijing, on April 17, the “People’s Daily” – the official organ of the Chinese Communist Party – published an editorial entitled “Guiding the construction of a Sino-Vietnamese community of shared destiny on the path of rapid development”, affirming that, regardless of the changes in the international situation, China still considers Vietnam a priority in its neighboring foreign policy.

The article discusses the meeting between Chinese President and General Secretary Xi Jinping and his Vietnamese counterpart To Lam during the latter’s state visit to China on April 15. Both parties had in-depth discussions on strategic issues of common interest and reached numerous important agreements. The strategic leadership of the top leaders of both parties and countries has propelled the construction of the Sino-Vietnamese community of shared destiny towards rapid development.

China and Vietnam, as socialist neighbors and strategically important partners, are united by a common future. In recent years, the top leaders of both parties and countries have held many direct meetings, fully demonstrating the deep friendship between China and Vietnam, considered as “fraternal comrades”. The leadership of the Communist Party is the fundamental characteristic and greatest asset of socialism. Protecting the socialist system and the dominant position of the Communist Party is the primary common strategic order of both parties.

The article emphasizes that youth is an essential driving force for development and social progress, serving as the heir to the cause for both parties and their respective countries. During the visit, President Xi Jinping and President To Lam met with Chinese and Vietnamese youth participating in the “Red Journey for Research and Study” program. This initiative highlights the importance both countries place on the younger generation, aiming to mobilize youth in service of the socialist cause and build a strategically important Sino-Vietnamese community of shared destiny.

Amidst global upheavals, cooperation between China and Vietnam for the construction of a community of shared destiny is essential for maintaining peace and development regionally and globally. In response to rising protectionism and the challenges facing economic globalization, the development of all nations is affected. In this context, China and Vietnam have jointly opted for open cooperation, standing together against unilateralism and protectionism, and committing to preserving the global free trade system and the stability and proper functioning of supply chains and industries. This cooperation will contribute to creating a more favorable international environment for the development of each country.

The article concludes that regardless of international developments, China will always give priority to Vietnam in its neighboring foreign policy. China is determined to maintain its initial aspirations and friendship with Vietnam, working together in a spirit of solidarity and mutual support to promote a high-quality comprehensive strategic cooperation, in accordance with the six priority objectives, and accelerate the construction of a Sino-Vietnamese community of shared destiny, which holds major strategic importance.
