Gaëtan Roussel, a prominent figure from the band Louise Attaque back in the 1990s, has been pursuing a rich and diverse career for several years. From solo projects to experiences in radio, television, and even film – where he appeared in Daniel Auteuil’s movie “Le Fil” released in 2024 – the 53-year-old artist has continuously reinvented himself. In an interview with Le Monde on Sunday, April 19, he also opened up about a much more personal period. The year 2024 was particularly challenging for him, marked by the sudden death of his father at 70 years old while battling cancer.
“In this interview with Le Monde, Gaëtan Roussel candidly discusses the brutality of this loss. ‘I’m not one to openly share my life. My dad was young, only 70 years old. It’s someone I spoke with at 5 p.m. and now I can never speak to again about my life,'” he revealed. This unexpected loss came amidst another challenging event in 2024.
Feeling that “there is zero preparation for that,” the new Enfoirés member in 2024 shared the period where death and illness collided. At the time of his father’s passing, he was indeed battling cancer himself. His songs “Nos blessures” and “Mes prières” reflect on this particularly painful year, marked by unforeseen death and sickness.
“A childhood marked by constant relocations”
The singer-songwriter also disclosed about his childhood, describing it as constantly changing. He revealed spending “the first ten years of his life” across France, following his father’s changing professional roles. A math teacher turned middle school principal, his father regularly moved establishments, forcing his son to constantly adapt to new environments and form often fleeting connections.
An essential figure in his life, whose passing in 2024 resonates even more deeply as it occurred during a challenging year for the singer, while he himself was battling illness.
