AMD’s most expensive AM5 processor has moved into the top 10 best-selling CPUs on Amazon US. The contrast is clear: the tests praise its technical basis, but most consider its price positioning difficult to defend.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 breaks through despite a cautious reception
At the time of the statement, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 occupied 10th place in the Amazon ranking of CPU bestsellers in the United States, with a price listed at $899, or approximately €830 to €840 as an indication excluding taxes and local variations. It then found itself ahead of all the Intel desktop processors present in this ranking.
The criticisms published around this reference generally converge on the same point. Gains exist on certain workstation loads, in compilation, in simulation and on memory-sensitive loads, but the gap remains limited in gaming compared to cheaper Ryzen X3Ds.
In other words, the reservations do not really relate to the architecture of the product. They mainly relate to the real value of a very fast CPU, but intended for narrow use if we look at the performance-price ratio.
Amazon above all confirms AMD’s domination of desktop CPUs
Amazon’s Best Sellers ranking moves quickly and mainly reflects the recent activity of a category. As a short-term indicator, it remains useful, but the more interesting reading comes from the long-term sales lists, where AMD’s Ryzen has long dominated, with the X3D models at the head of the queue.
The observation is all the more interesting since Intel does not even place its recent Core Ultra 7 270K Plus in the top 10 observed. According to the verification cited by the source, none of the Arrow Lake Refresh SKUs were listed there either, even though this new Intel chip is sold significantly less expensively and has received more favorable feedback on the price issue.
This gap between critical reception and the level of sales reminds us of one thing above all: on Amazon, AMD’s traction on the AM5 and on the X3D references remains intact. Intel can still prepare the sequel, but the perception of the socket LGA-1851considered to be at the end of the journey after this generation, is already weighing on the attractiveness of the platform.
