The Brazilian club Santos announced on Monday that they have opened an internal investigation into an altercation between Neymar and the son of former striker Robinho during a training session. According to local press, Neymar was not happy about being dribbled by 18-year-old prospect Robinho Junior during Sunday’s training session. “Just after the incident, an internal investigation was opened,” the Brazilian club stated in a release that did not detail the nature of the incident.

Several Brazilian media outlets report that Robinho Junior, son of former Real Madrid and Manchester City player, accuses Neymar of insulting and slapping him during the altercation that followed. Globo Esporte reports that Robinho Junior’s lawyers have informed the club that they are considering terminating the young forward’s contract if no action is taken by the club.

World Cup Hopeful

Despite his recurring physical problems, Neymar, 34, still hopes to be called up by national team coach Carlos Ancelotti for the World Cup (June 11-July 19). The all-time top scorer for the Seleção (79 goals, two more than Pelé), he has not played for the national team since October 2023. The final squad for the World Cup will be announced on May 18.

Former teammate of Neymar at Santos, 42-year-old Robinho is currently serving a sentence in Brazil after being convicted in Italy for gang rape.
