Paris Saint-Germain, qualified for the Champions League final after their victory against Bayern Munich, returns to Ligue 1 this Sunday evening with a match against Stade Brestois 29 at Parc des Princes.
In a press conference on Saturday, Luis Enrique discussed his team’s physical condition, managing playing time, and the collective momentum of his team. The Spanish coach emphasized the importance of maintaining rhythm despite the upcoming final. “We want to win tomorrow. After that, we’ll see what happens. To reach the final, players need competitive minutes. But it comes with risks. We need to assess the necessary playing time for each player,” explained the Parisian technician, who will have to deal with several absences.
PSG has provided a significant medical update before the match. Willian Pacho and Nuno Mendes are being treated for injuries to their right thigh. Warren Zaïre-Emery is suffering from lower back pain. Achraf Hakimi, Lucas Chevalier, and Quentin Ndjantou continue their recovery protocols. Luis Enrique confirmed that several young players from the youth academy are expected to play against Brest. “There will indeed be young players. I hope none of them will be criticized. It shows the level of intensity we have to overcome,” he revealed.
Luis Enrique praised the team spirit in the group, highlighting the positive atmosphere within the Parisian squad. “They call each other ‘Bro,’ which is very positive. Everyone around the club is happy with this little family,” he said. He also commended Désiré Doué, describing him as “very mature” despite his young age. He emphasized the importance of collective work in PSG’s offensive animation. “When we see the work of the midfielders, the full-backs… Kvara has been incredible, Dembélé, Doué… Every week we try to create similar situations,” he stated.
The Parisian coach also showered Warren Zaïre-Emery with praise. “He can play anywhere, he is incredible! Wherever he is, he is important for the team,” said the Spaniard. When asked about his future at the club, Luis Enrique mentioned the support he has received since coming to Paris. “Since day one, I have had the support of the president, the fans… But I love it. The life of a coach is tough,” he concluded, on the eve of the last match of the season at Parc des Princes.
