Yoon Ga-eun’s interest in cinema started in a child’s bedroom. Films like “Diabolo Menthe” by Diane Kurys shaped her artistic tastes. She graduated from the National University of Arts in Seoul and made a mark in France with “Guest,” winning the Grand Prix at the short film festival in Clermont-Ferrand in 2012. At 44 years old, she released her third feature film this year, “The World of Love,” focusing on the daily life of a cheerful, popular high school student. Children and adolescents remain central to her work, which she describes as unintentional but driven by her love for capturing the age of vivid experiences.
Yoon Ga-eun admires filmmakers like Hirokazu Kore-eda, Ken Loach, the Dardenne brothers, Agnès Varda, and Mike Leigh. She believes in a cinema that serves society and makes a difference.
